La Bottega, suppliers of fine foods to the catering trade

We are sad to announce that Calogero “Charlie” Tarallo, founder of La Bottega, passed away on Friday 17th August 2018.

In the early 1950s, Calogero Tarallo was one of thousands of Italians who travelled to Britain in search of employment and a new life. Working in the coal mining village of Peasedown St John near Bath, Calogero and his wife Rosa built their new life with support from their close friends the Bellaccomo and Fragapane families. Moving on to Fry’s chocolate factory in Keynsham, the couple settled in Bath and raised their sons Giuseppe and Salvatore, never forgetting their Sicilian roots.

After many years living in England the couple opened La Bottega; a small delicatessen selling imported Italian food. For over forty years Calogero proudly oversaw the expansion of his business, working with his sons to develop a thriving food service company supplying many prestigious restaurants and hotels in the South West of England.

Most importantly Calogero saw, with pride, the expansion of his family; welcoming six beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Calogero is survived by his wife Rosa and sons Giuseppe and Salvatore.

Funeral arrangements to follow.
